Troubleshooting

Resolve loading, saving, formula, file, and backup problems.

Startup stays on Opening locally

The browser needs network access to download the app and calculation runtime. The first XLSX operation also loads XLSX support. Wait for initialization and inspect any error banner. Check your connection and whether the browser permits site storage. Do not clear site data as a first troubleshooting step: that can erase workbooks.

Not saved

If the header shows Not saved, treat the latest change as unconfirmed. Keep the tab open, note the error banner, and preserve important unsaved input separately before reloading. A preview or visible edited value alone does not prove persistence.

If possible, download a full backup of the last persisted browser state; it cannot be relied on to include failed edits. Investigate available disk/storage space and browser storage restrictions. Once the cause is resolved, retry the specific operation. Do not assume a later successful status recovers every earlier failed edit; check the affected cells.

A formula shows an error

Check the formula error table. Start with =, close parentheses and quotes, use commas between arguments, and check that the function exists in the reference. Use double quotes for text and single quotes for sheet names with spaces. Break circular references rather than repeatedly re-entering the formula.

I cannot edit an imported row

Wait until the row's data has loaded. Filtering and sorting change display positions, so the app guards edits until it knows the source row. Clear the view using Filter and sort → Clear all and check any error banner if loading still fails.

Import or export looks different from Excel

Read the XLSX and export limitations. Imports preserve tables and supported expressions rather than the original document. Exports contain one sheet's values; they do not preserve formulas, formatting, or workbook objects. CSV's first row is data, not an automatically removed header. Dataset exports include filtered-out rows and use source order.

A workbook is missing

Check that you opened the same browser profile and origin. Existing tabs are independent sessions. Browser-data clearing, eviction, or private-browsing shutdown can remove stored workbooks. If you have an independent backup, restore it after preserving the current state. Hugtab has no account or remote workbook copy to restore from.

Backup restore fails

Check that the file is the .duckdb database backup you intended to restore, not a CSV or XLSX export renamed to .duckdb. Keep your original backup and a current copy; inspect the error and storage capacity. Do not repeatedly replace data or delete browser storage to work around an unexplained restore failure.

Report a reproducible problem

Record browser or desktop version, operating system, the action you took, and the exact error. Try to describe a small disposable example without private workbook content. A bug report should distinguish a failed save from a formatting or export expectation. Use the support channel supplied with your release; this documentation does not promise a hosted recovery service.
